Edible acorn

Yes, acorns are edible, but they must be properly prepared first. Raw acorns contain tannins, which taste bitter and can be toxic in large quantities. To make acorns safe to eat, you’ll need to leach out the tannins, typically by soaking them in water. Here’s a simple method:

1. Shell the Acorns: Remove the outer shell.

2. Leach the Tannins: Boil the acorns in water, changing the water every 15–20 minutes until the water is clear and the acorns no longer taste bitter.

3. Dry and Use: Once leached, dry the acorns and use them in various recipes or grind them into flour.

Acorn flour can be used in baking, and whole acorns can be roasted for snacks. It’s a nutrient-rich food, containing carbohydrates, healthy fats, and protein.
